Introduction
The calendars below describe the "whitewater releases" tentatively scheduled for the Gauley River below Summersville Dam in 2009. Note that by passing your cursor over the colored calendar cells the release information will appear in a pop-up text window.
Gage Information
Scheduled releases occur the last four weekends in September and the first two plus one day of the third weekend in October; unscheduled releases occur year round. For current levels, consult the boatingbeta MyFlows page. The Gauley Festival, a major fundraiser for American Whitewater (you are a member, right?), is always held the third weekend of September (not the third weekend of releases, apparently, at least not in 2009!).
Notes
The water is released immediately upstream of the put-in for the Upper Gauley; it takes approximately 4.5 hours for the water to reach the put-in for the Lower Gauley at Buck Lick Branch.
