Under the terms the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) licence that allows them to divert the Cheoah's waters, Alcoa is required to give 12 months notice of what the license calls the "high flow events" Alcoa proposes for the coming year. Historically they have done so at the end of January. The high flow events described in the calendars I've provided a link to below are those Aloca proposed to FERC in a letter dated January 30, 2007 WCP Conservation Chair Rod Baird forwarded to me this morning.

In their letter Aloca states that the proposed schedule was "developed on the basis of comments received from the agencies and other interested parties" at a meeting held in October 2006. The reality is, however, that the number of days and release levels each month for the first five years of the license are set by the license; what is on the table at the October meeting are the dates within each month the releases occur.

Site look funky?  Your browser is so old standards-based layouts and styling confuse it.  Consider updating.  Good options include:  Mozilla (Linux, Mac, Windows),  Mozilla Firefox (Linux, Mac, Windows),  Netscape v7 or higher (Linux, Mac, Windows),  Opera v7 or higher (Linux, Mac, Windows),  Galeon (Linux),  Konqueror (Linux),  Apple Safari (Mac),  Mozilla Camino (Mac),  Microsoft Internet Explorer v5 or higher (Mac),  Microsoft Internet Explorer v6 or higher (Windows).  All are free.  Because of security concerns I personally avoid Internet Explorer.  It may or may not be more buggy than its competitors, but its prominence and Microsoft's notoriety make it the most frequent target of malicious crackers.
